Meet Alannah!
Alannah Sander, our LAP it UP Champion from the Southern Grampians, grew up in Hamilton and has been in the water ever since she was a baby. Her mum was a swimming teacher and Alannah always loved taking a dip in the ocean in Port Fairy. She was also a lifeguard for three years!
Alannah enjoys swimming for both its physical and mental health benefits.
“It helps me to work on cardio and breath work. It’s also a way to clear my head at the end of the day and get in a rhythm," she says.
Alannah is making a splash for LAP it UP because combining physical activity and support for mental health are big passions of hers. She also loves to challenge herself!
“Participating in LAP it UP was amazing — I was able to check out some local pools that I had never been to and increase my fitness,” she says. Alannah did her laps at Brunswick Baths and Carlton Baths.
“I haven't been able to run due to muscle injuries, so swimming was great for both my physical and mental health. Even though I didn't achieve the ambitious goal of laps I had for myself, due to my injury, I was still proud of myself for giving it a go!”
For LAP it UP 2023, Alannah is looking forward to pushing herself and inspiring others to get back in the pool.
And most of all, she’s hoping to swim with her Mum!
